Credit Checks Mistakes can creep into the enormous databases of credit reporting agencies, so if you are thinking of buying a house and it's more than a year since you've checked, take a few minutes to see what will be on the credit report your lender receives. Call and ask for your report from one of the big three companies (TRW, Equifax, or Trans-Union). TRW will send you a free report once a year. The others charge a nominal fee. Our local Credit Agency is affiliated with Equifax and their charge is eight dollars. However, if you have been denied credit in the last 30 days there is no charge. If your report contains errors, write and ask the company to verify the information and check to see if the other companies have the same error. If a problem isn't resolved, submit a statement of 100 words or less, to be included in your file.
