Moving Children Moving children can be very stressful. Here are some helpful suggestions: Be positive when you tell them and don't assume their reaction will be negative. They might surprise you.
Allow them time to express their concerns. Gather information from the new area that would appeal to them. Having their own relocation package will help interest them.
Let them go along on a trip to the new town. Buy each child a disposable camera to take pictures of the things that interest them--their new school, a famous landmark or a park perhaps. They can share these photos with their friends. If you have a moving sale, give them a table where they can sell items they no longer want.
Give them a coupon book for things like long distance calls to friends, or visits to attractions in the new city. Children adjust more quickly than adults and tend to reflect your attitudes. So be sure to keep your comments and attitude positive.
